Fluid & Electrolytes
Taught by St. Rose Hospital Education and Training Department
Do you understand the role potassium plays in keeping cells, nerves and muscles functioning properly? Do you know what to do for a patient with a sodium imbalance? At this class learn how potassium contributes to fluid and electrolyte balance, how the body regulates serum potassium levels and treatment options when imbalances occur. In addition, learn about what contributes to fluid & electrolyte balance, as well as how the body regulates sodium balance. Identifying how to care for patients with either potassium or sodium imbalances and keep your patient on the road to recovery.

12 LEAD EKG-COMPREHENSIVE
Taught by St. Rose Hospital Education and Training Department
The major emphasis on this Comprehensive 12 – Lead EKG course is placed on 12 – lead EKG patterns seen with acute myocardial infarction, axis deviation, chamber hypertrophy and intraventricular conduction defects. This program provides training to determine the exact location of a myocardial infarction allowing the nurse to anticipate complications and interventions. An understanding of Basic EKG interpretation is needed! Participants must attend both the two-day course and pass the course exam to receive 14 Contact Hours (BRN #00366). No partial credit will be given.

Being Picky about PICCs, Ports and IV Care & Maintenance

- Remove and Replace a central line
- Declot PICCs and Ports
- Understand the difference between a midline and a PICC line
- Understand the medications that can be given in a midline or PICC line
- Flush a PICC, midline or Port
- Teach patients and families on the care of PICCs and Ports
- Explain the differences between a single and dual lumen port-a-cath
- Identify two types of port-a-caths and their location
- List three items needed in order to access a port-a-cath
- Demonstrate accessing port-a-cath
- List the correct steps for checking proper placement of Huber needle

Review of Pulmonary Assessment and Pathology
This 8 1/2-hour continuing education program is intended to provide all RNs and RTs with a review of assessment for pulmonary disease and emergencies. Upon completion of this course, the staff will be able to:
- Perform accurate inspection of the respiratory system
- Perform accurate palpations of the respiratory system
- Perform accurate percussion of the respiratory system
- Perform accurate auscultation of the respiratory system
- Verbalize the steps in inserting a nasogastric tube
- Verbalize the steps in setting up a pleur-evac
- Verbalize care and maintenance of ventilators
- Verbalize care and maintenance of patients on NPPV (BIPAP)
- Verbalize the steps in performing nasotracheal suctioning

- Remove and Replace a central line
- Declot PICCs and Ports
- Understand the difference between a midline and a PICC line
- Understand the medications that can be given in a midline or PICC line
- Flush a PICC, midline or Port
- Teach patients and families on the care of PICCs and Ports
- Explain the differences between a single and dual lumen port-a-cath
- Identify two types of port-a-caths and their location
- List three items needed in order to access a port-a-cath
- Demonstrate accessing port-a-cath
- List the correct steps for checking proper placement of Huber needle

The major emphasis on this Comprehensive 12 – Lead EKG course is placed on 12 – lead EKG patterns seen with acute myocardial infarction, axis deviation, chamber hypertrophy and intraventricular conduction defects. This 8 1/2-hour continuing education program is intended to provide all RNs and RTs with a review of assessment for pulmonary disease and emergencies. Upon completion of this course, the staff will be able to:

Health Literacy
This two-hour continuing education program is designed to provide awareness to healthcare workers, of the importance to communicate clearly. In addition, each patient should be evaluated for their ability to understand written and spoken instructions.

- Declot PICCs and Ports
- Understand the difference between a midline and a PICC line

- Teach patients and families on the care of PICCs and Ports

12 LEAD EKG-COMPREHENSIVE

The major emphasis on this Comprehensive 12 – Lead EKG course is placed on 12 – lead EKG patterns seen with acute myocardial infarction, axis deviation, chamber hypertrophy and intraventricular conduction defects. This program provides training to determine the exact location of a myocardial infarction allowing the nurse to anticipate complications and interventions. An understanding of Basic EKG interpretation is needed! Participants must attend both the two-day course and pass the course exam to receive 14 Contact Hours (BRN #00366). - Declot PICCs and Ports
- Understand the difference between a midline and a PICC line
- Understand the medications that can be given in a midline or PICC line

- Teach patients and families on the care of PICCs and Ports
- Explain the differences between a single and dual lumen port-a-cath
- Identify two types of port-a-caths and their location
- List three items needed in order to access a port-a-cath
- Demonstrate accessing port-a-cath

The major emphasis on this Comprehensive 12 – Lead EKG course is placed on 12 – lead EKG patterns seen with acute myocardial infarction, axis deviation, chamber hypertrophy and intraventricular conduction defects.
