St. Rose Celebrates Grand Opening of New Women's Imaging Center
The St. Rose Hospital Breast Center has a new look, new name, and state-of-the-art technology. In order to provide patients with optimal breast imaging and comfort with lower x-ray dosage, St. Rose Hospital's new Women's Imaging Center, has installed a MAMMOMAT NovationDR digital mammography system from Siemens Medical Solutions.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.®, breast cancer incidence in women has increased from one in 20 in 1960 to one in eight today. If detected early, the five-year survival rate for this disease exceeds 95%1. MAMMOMAT NovationDR enables physicians and clinicians to better pinpoint disease and plan treatment.
'Breast self-examination is one of the most important tools for early detection, and regularly scheduled mammograms are not only highly recommended but can often detect a lesion long before it can be felt,' said Dr. Michael Faer, Medical Director of Radiology Services at St. Rose Hospital. 'With this innovative new system, screening and diagnosis can be performed on a single unit. As an adjunct to these diagnostic imaging tools, we offer stereotactic and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy,' continued Faer.
'Our new mammography system will help St. Rose Hospital's Women's Imaging Center provide women of in our community with the best possible exams. In addition to increased diagnostic capabilities, MAMMOMAT NovationDR is also designed to reduce the discomfort often associated with mammography;' said St. Rose Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, Doug Davis. 'The new system uses MammoPads, a new soft foam pad that creates a cushion between the patient and the mammography machine they can relax knowing that they will be comfortable.'
The new technology allows for ease and comfort in patient positioning. The system enables a direct conversion of X-ray to digital information and features MammoReportPlus, a multi-modality workstation for mammography with the ability to accept Computer Assisted Diagnosis (CAD) markers from approved vendors—which helps increase cancer detection rates. MammoReportPlus provides ultra-fast, high-volume mammogram reading, permitting users to switch between eight-view mammographic studies in less than one second.
In addition to the new digital mammography system the center offers bone mineral density testing and diagnostic ultrasound testing. Current estimates indicate that one out of every two women will develop breast or bone health problems (osteoporosis) in their lifetime. Bone Mineral Densitometry provides high resolution images of the all skeletal sites to measure the amount of calcium in the bone. The new Philips iU22 Ultrasound System is complete with 3 dimensional and 4 dimensional scanning capabilities. For example, it allows clinicians to actually visualize movement, as in seeing a baby's movement during a uterine ultrasound or blood flow through a vessel and be able to share this with patients.
The NEW Women's Imaging Center meets all of the health needs of today's woman in a Spa-like atmosphere.
Balancing high-tech with high-touch, women will be visually treated to a completely remodeled center that has a spa-like atmosphere. The lovely new color palette, lounge area and comfortable soft cloth gowns is a wonderful respite from the usual clinical environment.
