St. Rose Hospital Awarded $274K Grant

St. Rose Hospital has embarked on a journey to promote health care career mentoring and youth leadership – and the results have been tremendous!

Through three new grants from the California Endowment, the City of Hayward, and the Hayward Rotary Club, a special youth mentoring program was instituted at St. Rose Hospital in 2007 to foster the health care professions. FACES for the Future at St. Rose Hospital brings high schools students who live in our community to our campus, providing them with an opportunity to work side by side with our health care team. This innovative project was replicated from a highly successful program at Children's Hospital and Research Center in Oakland.

High school juniors who are enrolled in the Eden Area Regional Occupational Program can apply for this program wherein they receive both academic and hands-on training. The program is a two year commitment and it includes a leadership component which develops the student to reach and aspire for future goals.

We are most grateful to our generous funders who made it possible to bring the FACES program to our community. The program presents a great opportunity for high school students to fast track into health care careers and includes partnerships with Cal State University East Bay, Alameda County Public Health and Mentoring In Medicine.
