Taking Baby Home
You and your doctor will determine the appropriate time for you and your baby to go home, but generally you’ll be discharged from the hospital within 48 hours. You’ll usually leave the hospital with your baby, but if it should be necessary for your baby to stay a few more days, we’ll help you make arrangements to be with your baby and to feed your newborn.
Before you leave the hospital, your baby will be tested for possible genetic disorders and hearing deficiencies. Our staff will discuss with you what to expect during your next six weeks of recovery.
To bring your baby safely home from the hospital, you’ll need an approved auto infant safety seat, a baby blanket and going-home clothes for your baby.
Once you arrive home, you may find that you have more questions or concerns. We’re here to help, 24 hours a day. For questions about your health or the health and care of your baby, please call the Family Birthing Center at (510) 264-4031 with any questions you may have after being discharged.
We will also call you within two days to check on your progress and to make sure your stay at St. Rose was the best possible experience for you.
