POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Manager of Pharmacy, the incumbent shall prepare, dispense and
distribute medication and provide clinical monitoring and drug information in a manner, which ensures
optimal patient care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Reviews and interprets prescriptions for inpatients using computerized patient profiles to ensure the
appropriateness of dosage and to determine the significance of potential drug-drug interactions.
Enters orders into the computer accurately and completely.
Contacts and confers with physicians concerning the appropriate drug, dose, dosing internal, drug
allergy and drug-drug interaction.
Prepares or supervises the dispensing of the appropriate amount of unit dose medications.
Maintains inventory and records on controlled substances or other form of drugs as required by Federal
and State laws.
Conducts the Skilled Nursing Facility patient medical review monthly.
Fills and dispenses discharge medications, employee prescriptions and Occupational Health
prescriptions, and maintains all records as required by Federal and State laws.
Prepares or supervises the preparation of I.V. additive using aseptic technique in the laminar air flow
hood.
Prepares or supervises the admixtures of chemotherapy using aseptic and safety technique with the
Type II safety hood.
Coordinates workload activities with colleagues and technicians to complete routine tasks of the shift.
Other Duties
Provides drug information and in-service education as needed for the hospital staff and community as
required.
Maintains pharmacy inventory to ensure that drugs are readily available for patient use.
Assists in precepting pharmacy interns/ technician students assigned to the area.
Monitors selected patient’s drug therapy to ensure effective therapy.
Maintains a clean working environment.
Assists manager in developing and implementing new programs and policies and procedures; actively
participates in gathering accurate data for quality assurance issues, clinical pharmacy documentation,
DUE and ADR.
QUALIFICATIONS
*License/Certification
Current California Pharmacy License
*Proof of all required License(s) and Certification(s) due at time of hire
**Education
Graduate from an accredited pharmacy school.
**Proof of all required educational levels due at time of hire
Experience
Experience in a hospital pharmacy preferred.
Skills
Knowledge and experience in UD, I.V. additives and therapeutics
Computer skills required
Clinical skills preferred
Ability to communicate effectively with hospital staff and patients.
Employee must demonstrate basic computer skills
