JOB TITLE:                           SUPERVISOR, EMERGENCY DEPT (ED) REGISTRATION

REPORTS TO:                     SUPERVISOR, PATIENT ACCESS            

                                            MANAGER, PATIENT FINANCIAL SERVICES


POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Patient Access Department Supervisor, the Emergency Department Registration Supervisor is responsible for all day-to-day registration and financial clearance work flow in the SRH Emergency department.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assist leaders and staff responsible for the creation and delivery of training for registrars in all areas of patient access.

 

Provides guidance and feedback on employee performance through the auditing and screening of registration work and various computer reports.

 

Supports all positions and registers patients as needed to support team. Cross trained to support all registration areas of SRH. Rotates on-call responsibilities with Patient Access Supervisor for weekends, holidays and off-hours

 

Assist department supervisor with the appropriate staffing of Patient Access areas.

 

Assist department supervisor with completion of performance appraisals prior to due date.

 

Reviews and assures that employee time is recorded accurately per SRH policy.

 

Produces and keeps current a departmental record on each employee which shall include:        

  • PTO’s
  • Absent and tardy occurrences
  • Disciplinary actions and other counseling sessions
  • Commendable actions and incidents in support of the department and SRH

 Assures that all employees attend appropriate mandatory training annually. Documents attendance on all mandatory and employee development classes attended, and dates of each.

 Keeps abreast of changes to state and federal regulatory compliance items affecting patient registration including HIPAA, EMTALA, ADA, Medi-Cal, etc.  Provides timely updates to staff as appropriate.

 Responsible for daily cash management and valuables function to include daily, weekly, and random audits as appropriate for the facility.

 Produces various reports and feedback to manager. Facilitates staff education, knowledge sharing and teamwork by conducting regular staff meetings and utilizing other forms of communication.

 interacts on as needed basis with other SRH departments which may be impacted by the Patient Access process.

 Promotes a positive hospital image to patients, visitors and physicians by adhering to the SRH Core Values of Service-Partnership-Community-Compassion-Excellence.

Other Duties

Oversees advance directive, patient rights, Important Message to Medicare Patients and HIPAA privacy practices audits and reports to Business Services Manager.

Attends monthly Emergency Process Improvement Committee (EPIC) meetings

Attends disaster preparedness meetings and drills.

perrforms other job related duties as assigned by the Manager, Business Services

 Works closely with ED clinical leaders to promote safe and efficient patient care

 Always maintains a clean, neat and orderly work area. Responsible for working in a safe manner at all times. Provide escort and assist in patient transport as needed to appropriate location.

 Demonstrates competency in communication with adolescent, adult, or geriatric patients relative to age related, psychosocial and cultural needs.

 Performs other job related duties as assigned by Manager, Supervisor or SRH Administration.


QUALIFICATIONS

N/A

*Proof of all required License(s) and Certification(s) is due at time of hire.

**Education

High school graduate or equivalent. College degree (associate or four year) preferred.

**Required educational levels call for proof at time of hire.

Experience

Two years or more experience in hospital registration or related patient financial services position. Prefer previous management experience.

Skills

Professional demeanor and excellent customer service  skills.

Ability to interact with staff; render support and motivation. 

Strong oral and written communication skills required. 

Knowledge of medical insurances (Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO’s, PPO’s, commercial), EMTALA regulations, hospital billing and collection process. 

Excellent written skills with knowledge of medical terminology.

Typing speed:  minimum 40 wpm, computer knowledge

Knowledge of CPT / ICD-9 coding helpful. 

Employee must demonstrate basic computer skills
